The most important thing to consider when adding crotons to your landscape is location. Some crotons hold their color only in the shade, or they could lose it completely instead. Others may wilt or turn sickly yellow or alternatively, glow brilliantly in bright sunlight. Most thrive in filtered light. A lot of them spent decades toughing out Florida weather before finding a home with us, they are the resilient ones. And there are those that came from plant collectors who kept them for their compelling good looks, even if they were a little temperamental. A good many new varieties have cropped up in recent years with interesting new forms and coloration. Crotons are not boring.
