Origin
Anthurium Circus Peanuts, also known as Mike’s Goliath is a hybrid created by horticulturist Mike Bush at Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, in the early 1980’s. It is a cross between A. dressleri and A. versicolor and is known for its large foliage and unusual fragrance when flowering. The scent is reminiscent of Circus Peanuts candy. The name ‘Mike’s Goliath’ honors its creator, however ‘Circus Peanuts’ is the name by which the plant is better known among collectors.
About 10 to 13 years ago, we acquired a plant from Ree Gardens and planted it in a heavily shaded spot, then gradually forgot about it. Since the area had irrigation, it just kept on growing on its own. When Marie Nock visited us last year she discovered it and was delighted to see how much it had grown – and encouraged us to pot them up.
